Sectors of activity in Lithuania

Having joined the euro area in January 2015, Lithuania is a carrier of business projects, particularly in the areas of business services, industry and engineering, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and communication and life sciences.
The fourth main sectors of activity are:
• Services contribute 68.3% of GDP (gross domestic product) and employ 65.8% of the active population. The information and communications technology sector is the largest service sector in terms of contribution to GDP.
• With one of the fastest broadband transmissions in the world and the most advanced ICT infrastructure in the region, Lithuania is positioning itself as a regional center of excellence for small software and video game development companies as well as large corporations. ICT companies.
• The main industrial sectors in Lithuania are electronics, chemicals, machine tools, metal processing, building materials, household appliances, food processing, light industry (including textiles), clothing, furnishings and appliances. The country is also developing oil refineries and shipyards. The industrial sector contributes 28.5% of GDP and employs around 25% of the labor force.
• Finally, agriculture and fisheries contribute 3.3% of GDP and employ 9.1% of the workforce (according to the CIA World Factbook 2017). The main agricultural products of Lithuania are wheat, wood, barley, potatoes, sugar beet, wine and meat (cattle, sheep, and pigs).
